Anthrax Vaccine Network - Heroes - USAFR Master Sergeant, Clarence McNamer

Butch McNamer - healthy - with mother and sister My name is Clarence McNamer I am a 29 year USAFR Master Sergeant with four years active duty. I am a flying crew chief on the C-5 aircraft at Travis AFB in California.

I was over- inoculated with the anthrax vaccine. There were 2 months and 10 days between #4 and #5 shots. I had a bad reaction. One of the symptoms was complete loss of all hair from the neck up. I'm told my immune system attacked my hair. I also had pustule sores on my scalp. I felt tired and old.

My hair returned white (from its normal brown) 6-to-8 months later. About 13 months after that, my hair is gradually changing from white to brown. I just turned 49 years old. My health is getting a little stronger. I have an LOD (Line of Duty) that exempts me from taking any further anthrax shots.

Recently the Air Force Times did an article on my reactions from the vaccine (5th shot) and the medical, financial problems that ensued afterwards (25 June, 2001, page 20). On 08 July 2001 the local paper Daily Republic in Fairfield Ca. outside of Travis AFB (written by Mr. Ian Thompson) also did an article on my reaction from the vaccinations and the problems and concerns it has caused. I want people to know of my reaction to the Anthrax vaccination and how I am having problems with the Air Force after signing paper work agreeing the vaccine caused my illness are very slow in paying my medical bills.
